CARE International in Vietnam, in collaboration with Start Fund, the Red Cross of Hoa Binh Province, and the Red Cross of the three districts of Lac Thuy, Yen Thuy, and Mai Chau, organized relief activities to support recovery efforts following the record-breaking floods that hit the area in early October.

The relief effort is worth over 3 billion VND. Beneficiaries will receive essential items such as blankets, mosquito nets, and water filters to restore normal living conditions after the floods quickly.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, Acting Country Director of CARE in Vietnam, Hoa Binh was one of the provinces most severely affected by the tropical depression in early October. Through this support, CARE hopes to assist the people of Hoa Binh, especially women most impacted by poor sanitation conditions left by the floods, and stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

According to official data from Hoa Binh Province, the flood resulted in 34 deaths and missing persons, flooded over 3,100 households, and affected 100% of the rice and crop areas. The floodwaters also swept away 457 hectares of aquaculture, killing thousands of livestock and poultry. As of October 19, total damages were estimated at over 1.6 trillion VND.
