CARE's approach

The following components constitute structured criteria for how CARE in Vietnam (CVN) designs, implements, and measures our programs:

1. Driving Locally-Led Ownership of Development:

CVN is committed to promoting locally-led development, ensuring that community members have ownership and control over the initiatives that affect their lives. This involves strengthening the capacity of local organizations, supporting community-based planning and implementation, and advocating for policies that support local leadership. By empowering local actors, CVN aims to create sustainable and inclusive development outcomes.

2. Leveraging the Private Sector and Implementing Market-Based Approaches:

CVN actively engages with the private sector to leverage market-based solutions that drive economic development and poverty reduction. By fostering partnerships with businesses, CVN helps create job opportunities, improve access to markets, and enhance livelihoods for vulnerable populations. The organization implements initiatives that support micro, small, and medium enterprises, promote sustainable business practices, and encourage corporate social responsibility. Through these efforts, CVN ensures that economic growth benefits the broader community and contributes to long-term development goals.

3. Youth Engagement:

CVN emphasizes the empowerment and engagement of youth as a critical aspect of its development strategy. By targeting young people, CVN aims to build a generation that is resilient, informed, and capable of driving positive change within their communities. Programs are designed to enhance youth leadership skills, provide access to education and vocational training, and foster youth participation in decision-making processes.

4. Focusing on Innovation and Agility:

CVN adopts innovative approaches to tackle complex development challenges. This includes leveraging digital tools, employing adaptive programming to respond to changing circumstances, and integrating new technologies into project implementation. The organization values agility, ensuring its interventions can quickly adapt to emerging issues, such as climate change impacts and socioeconomic shifts.

5. Working in Partnerships:

Collaboration is at the heart of CVN’s approach. The organization works with a wide range of partners, including government agencies, local and international NGOs, private sector entities, academia, and community-based organizations. These partnerships are crucial for pooling resources, sharing expertise, and amplifying the impact of development initiatives. CVN also plays a convening role, bringing together diverse stakeholders to address common goals.

Over the next five years, CVN will additionally explore incorporating different types of consulting models into its programs to create a sustainable revenue stream that supports its mission. This approach will involve offering training, consultancy, and technical services to organizations and businesses, aligning commercial activities with development objectives to enhance impact and financial resilience.
